New OpenStack infrastructure in the Atman Cloud

In the world of modern technologies, the public cloud has become an essential tool for many companies looking to quickly scale their computing resources and optimize costs.

Atman Cloud is one of these solutions. This is a public cloud platform provided by Atman, one of the leading data center and IT infrastructure providers in Europe. All components of the Atman Cloud platform are located in a professional data center in Warsaw (WAW-1), which meets and exceeds the Tier III standards for data centers.

Since May 2024, Atman has switched to a new OpenStack infrastructure, which utilizes the latest servers and advanced networking solutions. This enables the company to offer customers enhanced data protection, optimized performance, and the ability to integrate new services. All new projects are launched on the updated infrastructure by default, but customers are required to migrate their existing resources on their own.

Key advantages of the new infrastructure

• Enhanced security: Free MetroCluster feature on block storage, automatic data replication between the WAW-1 and WAW-2 data centers.
• Higher performance: Disk speeds of up to 25,000 IOPS for certain configurations, along with improved CPU and network operation performance.
• Faster updates and maintenance: Reduced service downtime and quicker deployment of customer environments.

  

The migration process

Step 1: Back up your data

• Back up all of your virtual machines (VMs) in your current environment.
• Restore these backups to the new infrastructure (WAW-1B).
• Contact XAAS.Cloud to migrate external IP addresses and DNS zones to the new environment.

Step 2: Migrate virtual machines

• Create copies of your VMs on the new infrastructure with similar settings.
• Transfer the data using tools such as scp or rsync, or export the volumes and upload them to the new infrastructure.
• Contact XAAS.Cloud again to transfer any necessary network settings.

Step 3: Complete the migration

• Use a custom migration script to automate the process of transferring networks, security rules, and other settings.
• Your virtual machines will be shut down for a few seconds to make rollback copies, after which they will start in the new environment.
• Wait for confirmation from Atman that the migration has been successfully completed.

Upon completion of the process, sign the migration certificate confirming that all operations were performed correctly.

Testing the new infrastructure “FRIENDLY USER”

Atman offers selected customers a free test of the new infrastructure for 2 weeks. The migration may take some time depending on the amount of data, but the migration speed is estimated at about 30 MB/s. Feedback will help improve the process.

Starting April 1, 2025, the old infrastructure will be shut down, so all projects must be migrated to the new platform.
